The following is to be checked daily before the press is put for operation.

        Lubrication System.

A majority of presses (almost all manufactured after 1976) have oil lubrication system. Before every start of the press it is required to check the oil presence in the oil tank of the oil station, lubrication system motor performance, output oil pressure. Malfunction of the motor appears in overheating of electric motor, extra noise appears as a pump drone.

After this it is required to ensure visually that the lubrication flows in the major press units. Main rule is – the oil should appear on the ram’s slides. As in general the slide’s oil pipeline has the maximum length it is considered that all other points of lubrication are filled. On the presses of type K, where actuator shafts are parallel to the front, oil can be observed on the middle shaft, in the point of junction of connecting rod and ram -for this it is sufficient to keep clean the opening of the middle shaft railing. On the presses of type KB, where actuator shafts are perpendicular to the front, oil on the press shafts is controlled by the oil discharge from the ram.

One should pay attention on the discharged oil condition. The oil should be clean, if lubrication color changes, especially darkens it shows such press operating trouble as seizing of sliding bearings (scores in sliding bearings).

The weakest place in press lubrication system is flexible hose which is supplying oil to the ram elements. The pressure-sensitive relay, placed on internal side of the ram – where the manometer is placed must be kept in order. Actuation of pressure-sensitive relay means the flexible hose cutoff.

These operations take about 1 min of your time before starting the press in the beginning of the shift. During the working shift the equipment checking out should be held at least once.

Oil quantity should be so that friction surfaces could be wet from oil. There is no need in extra oiling as it gives nothing except extra oil consumption and extra pollution.

        Main Motor.

If while starting the main drive the sound appears, which later on after flywheel speeding-up disappears, belts should be tightened. Tighten of the V-belt transmission belts affects on the flywheel useful work margin accumulated during the idle stroke time. I would like to put your Attention on the moment that intensive belt wear-out occurs when press motor is switched on the reverse move while carrying out the adjustment. It is required to put the motor on the reverse only when the flywheel is totally stopped. For this case press is equipped with flywheel brake with pneumatic drive, and it is known from practice that this device is not functioning on the most of presses.

To reduce belts wear-out and ease the adjustment work, press can be equipped with the main drive frequency converter. Modern devices have also smooth start facility - decreasing of start currents during the start of the main drive is very important for big capacity motors.

        Ejector.

Before starting the press it is also required to check fixing of the ejector (this is concerning type K presses). During intensive usage of the press the pins of the pusher have the tendency for the self loosening. To prevent it different methods of locking the thread are being used. Good results were given after usage of hermetic (thread blocker) for nondetachable junctions. It is necessary to avoid ejector overload – on all presses the ejector is protected from overloading by self-destruction cog. Not allowed to put more then estimated load on the ejector as it leads to destruction of the bronze bushings of the press connecting plates
