In 5-axis vertical machining centers, the tool can simultaneously describe a path in three dimensions, combined with tool tilt and part rotation (i.e., two additional axes), enabling the production of complex parts. Using a pair of A+B or B+C rotary axes—spindle tilt right and left and part rotation around a horizontal or vertical axis—makes it possible to machine complex part profiles in a single setup, saving time and ensuring machining accuracy, as any re-setup introduces error and requires additional machining time.
- It becomes possible to produce grooves and recesses of complex configurations while guaranteeing the accuracy of the internal profile.
- The use of short cutters ensures high precision at high cutting speeds.
- Eliminate errors when making holes with arbitrary angles, including for large parts.
- The absence of reinstallations reduces operating time and eliminates defects due to operator fault.
- The load on the machine, tool wear are reduced, and the quality of surface treatment is improved due to the rational orientation of the tool rotation axis to the surface of the part and the trajectory of the cutter.
All the advantages are realized only in a seamless connection with a digital control system (CNC) and the use of computer programs. CNCs calculate tool paths and processing speeds, reduce the load on the machine/tool/part, and visualize the machining process on the monitor, helping to achieve specific machining goals for specific sections of the part.
